Science & Tradition
Pharmacy Garden - herb-based products that make a real difference.
In the summer of 2008, my then-girlfriend and I were on holiday in the Serbian mountains. She had been living with IBS for almost ten years when she suddenly experienced severe symptoms. At a small pharmacy, an herbal tea blend was recommended. Two cups later, the symptoms were gone.
"This is the first time something has helped me so quickly," she said.
That moment sparked a question that never let go: why isn't this available to more people?
Years passed. My career took off, but time and presence with my children decreased. After a separation, it became clear that something needed to change. In the book The Top Five Regrets of the Dying, Bronnie Ware describes how people often regret working too much, missing their children's upbringing, and not daring to choose change. The insight was simple yet powerful: happiness is an active choice.
Pharmacy Garden was born from that choice.
The goal is to create more time, presence, and laughter with my children – and to build a company that can eventually fund a preschool for children with disabilities.
When you shop from Pharmacy Garden, you are not just buying world-class medicinal plants.
You are helping to build something intended to live on, long after us.
Recipes born from science & tradition
The experience in Zlatibor reminded us of something we often forget: the healing power of herbs has been used for thousands of years. Much of this knowledge has been pushed aside by modern medicine – even though many of our medicines originally come from the plant kingdom.
With Pharmacy Garden, we want to revive that tradition. We create carefully crafted herbal blends, targeting specific needs, with a focus on purity and potency. Our herbs are grown on a small scale or wild-harvested and gently sun-dried to preserve their natural, active compounds.
We draw inspiration and knowledge from regions with strong herbal traditions, such as Serbia, and rely on research from institutions like the Josif Pančić Institute. At the same time, we believe in the simplicity of nature: drinking herbal tea is gentle on both the body and the environment.
In a world where enormous quantities of industrially produced medicines affect our ecosystems, Pharmacy Garden aims to be a gentle alternative. For us, caring for people, animals, and nature is not an option – it is the foundation of everything we do.
Knowledge of the healing power of herbs
In Serbia, the Josif Pančić Institute, founded in 1948 and financed by the Serbian state, employs over 200 people, 17 of whom hold doctorates. The institute has been crucial in preserving and developing the science of homeopathy. With thousands of herbal species, many of which are endemic, and with local family traditions of herb harvesting spanning hundreds of years, we have found a fantastic place to develop and offer the best of nature's healing power to Scandinavia.
Hand-picked premium herbs from Southeast Europe
Medicinal plants from Southeast Europe are characterized by very high quality and a naturally high concentration of active ingredients. This is due to the region's favorable environmental conditions – with the right balance of precipitation, temperature, sunny days, humidity, and nutrient-rich soil.
In large parts of the area, cultivation and harvesting are carried out on a small scale, often in hilly and inaccessible terrain. This means that soil, air, and water largely remain unaffected by pesticides, heavy metals, and other harmful substances. The result is herbs of a quality that cannot be compared with industrially or greenhouse-grown alternatives.
Herbs have been part of human health from antiquity to today, and Southeast Europe has an unusually rich flora with several thousand plant species. It was precisely this biodiversity, in combination with a strong herbal tradition, that made the region our obvious choice.
We are proud to work with raw materials from Southeast Europe – and look forward to offering the best that this unique region has to offer in the coming years.
High-altitude country
The mountainous regions of Southeastern Europe exhibit extremely high biodiversity. Areas such as Kopaonik, Suva Planina, Tara, and Zlatibor collectively comprise approximately 1,500 identified plant species. The region is classified by the UN as one of the world's recognized biodiversity hotspots.
The mountainous topography, combined with varying microclimates and a relatively low degree of industrialization, creates favorable conditions for a rich and diverse flora. Southeastern Europe is home to a large number of endemic and regionally unique plant species with documented use in traditional herbal medicine.
By working with raw materials from these areas, we aim to make plants of high botanical and pharmacognostic quality accessible, and to contribute to increased knowledge about the traditional use and potential health properties of medicinal plants.
