Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between a tincture and herbal tea?

Herbal tea mainly extracts water-soluble compounds during brewing. A tincture uses both water and ethanol and can therefore capture a broader spectrum of the plant's naturally occurring compounds in a concentrated, easy-to-use liquid format.

Why do the tinctures contain alcohol?

We use ethanol because water and alcohol together can extract a broader spectrum of the herb's naturally occurring plant compounds than water alone. Ethanol acts as both an extraction medium and a preservative. 30–40 drops of a tincture containing 40% alcohol contain approximately 0.6–0.8 ml of pure alcohol, roughly equivalent to the alcohol in about 30 ml of 2.25% low-alcohol beer.

How do I take a tincture?

Most of our tinctures are taken diluted in a glass of water. The exact dosage and timing vary between products, so always follow the instructions on the individual product page and packaging.

When will I notice a difference?

Tinctures are generally intended for consistent use rather than as one-off products. How quickly you notice a difference depends on the product, its intended use and individual circumstances.

Can I combine a tincture with tea?

Yes. Several of our routines combine tea and tincture because the formats can suit different times of day. Follow the recommendation for the specific combination.
